Travis Brown Shares His Excitement for New Men’s Lacrosse Team
This week, I had the chance to sit down with Travis Brown, the new head coach of the Men’s Lacrosse team. The team will be starting up on TU's campus in the spring of 2024. Coach Brown has spent the last several years working up his coaching resume. He started out as a defensive coordinator at Aurora University, his alma mater.
Brown also spent time as a Graduate Assistant at Heidelberg University, which helped get their men’s lacrosse program off the ground.
“It was a good experience,” Brown said. “It’s nice to come back to this area I know well (Tiffin).”
Before coaching at TU, Brown spent the last four years as the head men's lacrosse coach at Westminster College in Pennsylvania. His team won the Presidents' Athletic Conference two out of the four years he coached there.
Coach Brown has some good expectations and hopes for next year at TU.
“Baby steps…I would love to see us go five hundred or better,” Brown said.
There are also several new recruits coming to the University. Twenty-one incoming freshmen have signed letters of intent to play lacrosse next spring. Brown is still looking for some team leaders, either on campus or elsewhere.
“I’ll be looking at the transfer portal here in a few weeks to see if I can pull some guys to come play," Brown said. "It would also be cool to see what’s here on campus and get some kind of leadership for the new guys.”
With the team still in the building process, Brown said that the new turf field out at Paradiso will be playing host to the men’s team for home games.
“They’re going to be putting in some bleachers, a press box, and some more netting. It’s gonna be sweet,” Brown said regarding the field.
With the rest of the semester to recruit, Brown is confident he has the right personnel to put together a competitive squad for next season. The team will be joining seven other GMAC schools for lacrosse including midwest powerhouse Mercyhurst.
All that’s left is to train and gear up for next spring.
