Brittney Brownell Makes Strides for Lady Dragons Golf Team

Brittany Brownell: the well-known Women's Golf Team coach at Tiffin University. Brownell will be starting her ninth season with the Tiffin University Lady Dragons. She started her coaching career at TU at age 25. Despite her young age, that has not stopped her from being the best she can be.

Brownell is around the same age as the students she coaches. How can somebody find the balance between being a coach and a friend? She saw that it was important to take on the role to be strictly a coach, not a teammate or friend.

"This may be hard at times, but a coach can still be there for their players while being their coach,” Brownell said.

During the 2022 spring season, Brownell and her players were the first team at Tiffin University to make it to the NCAA Women’s Golf National Championships. The event occurred at the Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville, Georgia. This was a groundbreaking event for the women’s golf program.

Brownell has experienced many things she never thought would happen as a college coach. She always assumed she would work a typical office job. After lots of job hunting, she decided to become a Graduate Assistant at TU. It wasn't too long after when Brownell got offered the coaching position.

She never thought she would be so successful as a coach.

"I believe that organizing and analyzing situations will make any coach successful," Brownell stated.

Even though winning is important, Brownell believes that having fun is the top priority. Her players typically only have four years on the team, but she wants them to remember the fun things they did in their college careers.

Brownell’s favorite part of her job is to see her players grow throughout their four years. She thinks it's interesting to see what they will do after they graduate from Tiffin University.

Being a coach has been a balancing act and a learning experience for Brownell. While her job has been challenging at times, she finds it so rewarding. All that matters to her is seeing her players grow into not only amazing athletes but also amazing people.
