Want to Solve Crimes as a Student? - Cold Case Fellowship at TU
A lot of people have a soft spot for true-crime shows. Whether it be NCIS or Law & Order SVU, people love the excitement and suspense involved in solving a crime. Tiffin University's Cold Case Fellowship is perfect for anyone interested in becoming a future crime solver.
The Cold Case Fellowship Program will provide students with real experiences and opportunities. Under the direction of Michael Curtis, the fellowship will allow students to work on real cold cases. Students will be able to give their insight and shed light on certain details of cases that got overlooked.
While the fellowship is more for criminal justice majors, anyone of any major can apply.
This fellowship will allow students to complete classes while also working with professionals in the field.
Certain course requirements do exist. Students must take JUS110 (Intro to Criminal Justice), ENF239 (Applied Investigating & Criminalistics), and FOR105 (Victimology) to qualify for the fellowship. Non-criminal justice students are able to take these courses as electives.
Students must complete all requirements when filing their undergraduate application. They must submit an essay on why the fellowship intrigues them. There is a GPA minimum requirement of 3.0 or higher in high school. Students must also maintain that GPA while in college. There is an interview process and a reference from high school. Attendance at the open house is also required --this is by invitation only. After completion of all these requirements, students must sign a contract.
To receive an invitation to the open house, the applicant must have completed all requirements listed above. This open house will allow the applicant to integrate themselves further into the program. Fellow TU faculty members will be in attendance in addition to professionals that have worked in cold case departments.
Each year, the fellowship will allow for students to earn more experience at different levels. First-year students will be able to learn the basics of the fellowship. They will learn about common terminology, cold case scenarios, and communication skills.
Second-year students will expand their knowledge of the basics they learned in their first year. They will gain more leadership skills.
Third-year students will be able to gain improved speaking skills. The students will begin to work on the cases and work in more team-oriented environments.
Fourth-year students will continue to work on cases, which can lead them to internship opportunities. Experienced students will also be able to lead a cold case team.
This fellowship also includes positions for graduate students. These students are able to consult and design work.
If this fellowship is something that piques your interest, the deadline to apply is MARCH 1, 2023. For more information, students can contact Michael Curtis, J.D. at 567.268.6047 or curtismt@tiffin.edu.
